John O. McGinnis, George C. Dix Professor in Constitutional Law at Northwestern examines factors that have contributed to the decline in applications to law school. In his opinion, "The most important cause of the decline in demand for legal services is technological shock."
This reminds me of the article, "How Technology is Destroying Jobs" from MIT Technology Review. As software increasingly "eats the world", how will it erode the formerly "safe-from-automation" white collar jobs – since as we've seen, "even relatively high-skill work in education, medicine, and law is affected."
