Journals declaring independence from corporate publishers - what are your thoughts?

In the aftermath of the resignation of the editorial board of Lingua, which left Elsevier in protest of the publisher's high subscription fees and limited OA options, many scholars are speaking out about such public journal declarations of independence. Two recent Scholastica blog posts offer context on the topic of journals leaving their publishers:

• In "One Editor’s Experience Declaring Independence From A Corporate Publisher and Thoughts on the Future" Michael Rosenzweig, who led the resignation of the editorial board of Evolutionary Ecology because of the journal publisher's high subscription fees, shares his experience and what he thinks it will take for individual journal declarations of independence to cause sweeping change in academic publishing.
