This year’s symposium, entitled: “The Green New Deal: Fighting Climate
Change Through Law”, will focus on the legal challenges and opportunities presented by this
potentially groundbreaking legislation you have spearheaded. The Symposium is scheduled
for Thursday, March 5, 2020 at Fordham Law School’s Lincoln Center Campus in New York City.
With our Symposium, we hope to create a dialogue centered around the political, legal and
financial challenges involved with implementing the Green New Deal and the necessary roles to be
played by the private sector and federal, state, and local governments in its implementation. Panels
throughout the day will situate the Green New Deal within prior proposals and reactions from
scientists, environmental activists and government, the role of young people and direct action in
advancing the proposal, and the adoption of the moniker by subfederal initiatives aimed at tackling
climate change.

Proposals will be evaluated and accepted on a rolling basis. The final submission deadline for consideration is TUESDAY, JANUARY 21, 2020, at 11:59 pm, EST.

Proposals should be submitted by e-mail to: ELR@fordham.edu

Accepted papers will be published in the 2020 Symposium Issue of the Fordham Environmental Law Review.  The publication is contingent on producing a final paper of publishable quality at the sole discretion of the Review’s Editors.

We also continue to solicit submission for a special theme volume centered around Local Environmental Governance including municipalization, building emission standards, mitigation fees or resiliency planning. Proposals could also focus on non-legislative governmental tools such as zoning, procurement or litigation as levers to reform.

We invite submissions ranging from short essays to full articles that engage with this evolving area of law, or propose new interventions.

If you are interested in participating, please submit a one-page abstract of your proposed essay to elr@fordham.edu as soon as possible
