In an effort to recognize the importance of welcoming new scholars to legal scholarship, the Denver Law Review created the Emerging Scholar Award eleven years ago. For the 2024 Emerging Scholar Award, the Denver Law Review's Articles Team will select one winner to receive an award of $500 and publication in Issue 1, Volume 102 of the Denver Law Review, scheduled for early 2025.

This exclusive publication opportunity is for all scholars who have:
  1. Received their J.D. as of March 1, 2024
  2. Not yet accepted a tenure-track teaching position
  3. Not held full-time teaching positions for more than three years
Our previous winners describe winning the Denver Law Review’s Emerging Scholar Award as a launching pad for their scholastic publications and, subsequently, their careers. For example, our inaugural winner, Professor Goldburn P. Maynard, Jr., recently received tenure at the Louis D. Brandeis School of Law. He noted on numerous occasions that several job interviewers questioned him about the Emerging Scholar Award and indicated that receiving the award made him stick out among colleagues. Our most recent winner, Anthony Guttman, is currently a Law Clerk at the United States Court of Appeals for the Tenth Circuit and notes that the Emerging Scholar Award gave him a competitive advantage over other candidates.

The Denver Law Review will accept submissions between February 5th, 2024 and March 25th, 2024. Then, the articles will then be anonymized by the Editor-in-Chief and blind-ranked by our Articles Team by April 17, 2024. To apply for this award, email your article and CV to our Editor in Chief, Kailey Houck, at khouck25@law.du.edu. We look forward to considering your submission!
