The Journal of Gender, Race & Justice invites submissions for a special symposium issue on Reproductive Health & Data Privacy. This issue will coincide with our upcoming symposium on April 11, 2025, and aims to explore the critical intersections between reproductive health, data privacy, and the law.
Symposium Theme
In an era of increasing digital surveillance and data collection, the intersection of reproductive health and data privacy has become a pressing issue. This symposium will address the legal, ethical, and social implications of data privacy in the context of reproductive health. We welcome papers that explore the following topics (but are not limited to):
- The impact of data privacy laws on reproductive health services.
- Legal challenges surrounding the collection and use of reproductive health data.
- Ethical considerations in the digital tracking of reproductive health.
- Comparative studies on data privacy and reproductive rights across jurisdictions.
- The role of technology in shaping the future of reproductive health privacy.
- Policy recommendations for protecting reproductive health data.
Submission Guidelines
We invite scholars, practitioners, and professionals to submit original research, case studies, or theoretical papers. Submissions should adhere to the following guidelines:
- Manuscript Types: Full-length research papers (20–30 pages, excluding footnotes), shorter essays (5–8 pages, excluding footnotes) and case studies related to the symposium theme.
- Format: Submissions should be formatted according to the Journal of Gender, Race & Justice style guide. Please use Bluebook citation rules (specifically the White Pages) for footnotes.
- Submission Process: Manuscripts should be submitted or via email to nora-harding@uiowa.edu.
- Review Process: All submissions will undergo a blind peer-review process. Authors will be notified of the review outcome by on a rolling basis.
Important Dates
- Submission Deadline: October 23, 2024
- Notification of Acceptance: Rolling basis (you will hear from us within two weeks of receiving your paper, potentially quicker turnaround if you submit prior to the submission deadline)
- Final Manuscript Due: November 20, 2024
- Symposium Date: April 11, 2025
