Volume 124 of the West Virginia Law Review is now accepting proposals for Health in the Hills: Understanding the Impact of Health Care Law in Rural Communities, organized by the West Virginia University College of Law, Morgantown, West Virginia.
We are seeking proposals for our 2022 Symposium Publication discussing Health Care Law and its impact in rural communities. While this is not limited to any sub-topics within Health Care Law, and we welcome all papers touching on the subject as it relates to rural communities, below are potential sub-topics to provide clarity for those who are interested in submitting a proposal.
1. Health Reform and Impact on Rural America
As the nation embarks on reforming our health care system, many reforms will have a unique impact on rural populations. Proposals that explore how these health reforms may impact rural health currently and in the future will be greatly appreciated.
2. Substance Abuse and Mental Health in Rural America
Rural communities continue to struggle disproportionately with mental health and substance abuse disorders, made worse during the pandemic. Proposals that address the ongoing crisis of mental health and substance abuse in rural communities will be greatly appreciated.
3. Telehealth and Remote Care: Legal and Ethical Challenges in Rural Health
Telehealth and other technological innovations to deliver care are integral to rural health. Proposals that address the implications of these technologies and legal reforms for rural communities will be greatly appreciated.
4. Access to Care for Vulnerable Groups in Rural Communities
Vulnerable groups may face particular challenges to accessing health care in rural communities. Proposals that consider special topics in rural health for LGBTQ+, disability, racial, and other minorities will be greatly appreciated.
5. Public Health and Rural Areas
Public health laws and ethics have been a critical issue for the country during the pandemic. Proposals that explore longstanding and future challenges of public health unique to rural health care will be greatly appreciated.
The deadline to submit proposals is September 30, 2021, at 11:59 p.m. EST.
Proposals will be accepted on a rolling basis. We are interested in both papers for publication and potential panelists and speakers for our 2022 symposium.
The symposium will take place at the West Virginia University College of Law on February 24 and 25, 2022.
